Glinda The Good SEO Witch

When was the last time you opened your email box to find a "spam" mail from your site's online form from some outfit promising to put you on the first page of Google? In addition, the sleazy marketer will also tout their so-called "white hat" procedures they use to guarantee you a first page ranking?
The first and most obvious thing that has to go through your head is, "If you are so goody-goody, why did you spam my form rather than calling me one-on-one?"

WebProNews recently ran a post about bad-guy SEO and one of the things they talked about was paid links and Google's desire to be selective about who they punish for paid inbound links. They cite the example of Guy Kawasaki, internet blogger and social media guru who was given an Audi R8 on "loan" in exchange for him blogging about the car on his blog. In addition, Audi continued to link back to Guy from their website.

Beware of get rich quick schemes. Good SEO is like good investing, it takes research, homework and plain old-fashioned hard work. Nobody that is legitimate will promise you anything without being very clear from the start that SERPs are an ever-changing landscape and that good SEO requires a multi-pronged approach…utilizing everything from good site content and optimization, quality inbound links from reputable (relevant) sources, blogging, social media, articles and press releases.

Labor and diligence = Good SEO. Anything other than that is just pie-in-the-sky salesman's puffery. The recent 6-9 months of economic reality have changed the landscape a little as some firms scale back on PPC ads and are looking for better results from their organic listings. This has resulted in a bevy of the "white hat" promoters who use your law firm's website forms as a place to spam their junk mails. In the old days we would say "JHD", (just hit delete).

Nowadays it is important to do your homework and find out what it takes to help get your site to better positioning in the SERPs of the major search engines. Due diligence, hard work and good old-fashioned elbow grease will get you to the top.
